FoS presenters recently gave a talk at the Students of Sustainability Conference 2018 called 'Environmental Liberation Through Animal LIberation'. We highlight some of the key points from that talk by covering the connections between animal and environmental movements, including exploring the environmental impact of animal agriculture. You can see the associated PowerPoint presentation for some references and visuals on the topic.
Amanda Leeper talks about the cruel realities behind the chick hatching programs commonly run by Australian primary schools, kindergartens and child-care centres. At face value, these programs seem to be a cute cuddly experience for all involved but the reality is very different, and the learning outcomes for the children are not necessarily positive. Having successfully lobbied her local council and primary school to discontinue their hatching programs, Amanda is well-qualified to share her experiences and tips on how to speak out on behalf of these most vulnerable.
We are savouring some sweet victories! We chat with Chris Delforce from Aussie Farms whose 'ag gag' charges, as well as those of Dori Kiss, were dismissed. We also chat with Andy Meddick about the recent successful campaign that resulted in a refusal to permit a new greyhound breeding & training facility .

Founders of Melbourne Chicken Save, Melbourne Cow Save, Melbourne Pig Save & the newest Melbourne Sheep Save join us in the studio to talk about their place in the growing worldwide Save Movement for farmed animals. They explain what the principle of "bearing witness" means in practice, the purposes of their rallies and slaughterhouse vigils, and what each group is up to.
On our first show back from the summer break, we speak with Kristin Leigh of Animal Liberation Victoria about a series of vigils they have been holding at Melbourne slaughterhouses. Kristin tells us about why ALV has been doing this activism, what they have witnessed and what happened when dozens of police showed up to one of their recent peaceful vigils.
This is the excellent talk given by Kyle Behrend, from Edgar's Mission farm sanctuary, at the 2015 Animal Activist Forum in Melbourne. He talks about the role of farm sanctuaries in animal advocacy and also about digital storytelling. Great information for all animal activists.
Emmanuel Giuffre, Legal Counsel for Voiceless, gives a presentation at the 2015 Animal Law Conference in Sydney that provides valuable insights into the animal welfare issues and legal framework of the Australian dairy industry. The event was hosted by NSW Young Lawyers.
So, you've always wanted to move to the country and have an animal sanctuary? If that's the case, you need to meet Justin Van Kleeck. He co-founded the Microsanctuary Movement which rethinks the conventional model of farm animal sanctuaries. Don't let your small urban space hold you back!
Lara Drew, the Campaign Director for Animal Liberation ACT's "Big Birds, Big Cruelty" campaign, Bede Carmody who runs A Poultry Place sanctuary in NSW, and Felicity Andersen from Animal Liberation Victoria. They'll be talking about the Australian turkey industry and the 3 - 5 million turkeys killed each year who live a short life of cruelty and suffering from conception to slaughter.
Tune in, get informed, and find out how to support the campaign.
