MUSIC COORDINATOR

What’s a movement without music? The Amandla four-part harmony sung down the South African apartheid. Paul Kelly’s From Little Thing Big Things Grow had everyone singing their way to an understanding of Aboriginal land rights. You Don’t Own Me, Respect, I Am Woman let everyone know that a woman’s place is of her choosing. And we all boogied our booty to the gay rights disco beat. Unbeknownst to many, the animal rights and veganism movements have a vibrant community of talented musicians and spoken-word artists. Freedom of Species is keen to broadcast the beats and harmonies of the next social justice movement.

Freedom of Species is looking for a music coordinator who is passionate about promoting the music and spoken word of the animal protection and vegan movements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide two tunes for each show that are relevant to the interview topic
  • Contact musicians and their management to ask permission to include their work in our podcasts
  • Develop and maintain a music and spoken word archive
  • Co-ordinate music and musicians for special promotional events
  • Produce compilation fundraiser CDs

PROGRAMMER

Freedom of Species is looking for a programmer to join the team.

A programmer is involved in all aspects of putting the show to air – researching, interviewing, editing, on-air presenting and operating the studio panel.

You will be working as part of a small team to produce entertaining and challenging radio about a broad range of animal-related issues to a general listenership.

If you believe engaging the ears and minds of the mainstream can do a helluva lot to improve the lives of animals … people and the planet. If you want to get active rather than angry, curious rather than dogmatic and appreciate the reducing harm philosophy behind veganism, contact the team to find out more.

All programmers are required to complete the 3CR General Radio Training course. The course runs for 26 hours and costs $100 concession and $225 fully waged. More info at 3CR training course
